Joseph BOSCO is Adjunct Associate Professor of Anthropology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Research Associate in the Department of Anthropology at Washington University in St Louis. He majored in Biology and Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame and received his postgraduate degrees (MA, MPhil and PhD) in Anthropology at Columbia University in the City of New York. He taught anthropology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong for 24 years, and is currently based at Washington University in St. Louis. He has conducted fieldwork in Panama, Taiwan, Hong Kong and south China. His research has focused on the cultural shaping of rationality, in areas including religion, economics, and politics. He is currently researching the use, misuse, and fear of pesticides in Taiwan, focusing on how farmers and consumers deal with the uncertainty of science.
