Gonçalo D. SANTOS 江紹龍

Gonçalo D. SANTOS is an Assistant Professor of Social-Cultural Anthropology in the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Coimbra. He is also a Senior Researcher at the Research Centre for Anthropology and Health (CIAS), University of Coimbra, where he coordinates the research cluster ‘Technoscience, Society, and Environment’. He held previous positions at the London School of Economics and Political Science, the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, and the University of Hong Kong. His research on China combines anthropological and STS perspectives to explore new approaches to questions of modernity, moral subjectivity, and social transformation in the Anthropocene. He is the author of Chinese Village Life Today (Univ. of Washington Press, 2021) and the co-editor of Transforming Patriarchy (Univ. of Washington Press, 2017). He is a participant in the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues Research Group on Culture and Society at Georgetown University. He is currently completing an edited volume on technology, gender, and reproductive labor in modern East Asia (with J. Eyferth and S. Gottschang) and a book focusing on the future of rural China in the Anthropocene.
